First European Cup match
Today is the 25th anniversary of the first match of FC Sheriff in European cups. On August 12, 1999 our club for the first time in history entered the international arena. It was a home match with Czech club Sigma Olomouc.
In that debut year FC “Sheriff” remained undefeated and did not pass to the next round only because of the away goal rule (1:1 in Tiraspol, 0:0 away).
10 years after the opening match was the first season in the group stage of the Europa League, and 11 years later, in the season 2021-22, FC “Sheriff” for the first time in the history of Moldovan soccer broke through to the group stage of the Champions League and, also for the first time, played in the spring part of the European tournament.
