Tomorrow the senior youths of the Sheriff Football Academy will start in the UEFA Youth League. Last year the team did not take part in the tournament, despite another title of Champion of Moldova. The team will be led by Andrei Korneenkov. Here are his thoughts before the start:

 

- New season in the Youth Champions League - with what thoughts are we starting the tournament?

- We start the tournament only with positive thoughts, we have been waiting for this for a long time, given the pause associated with the pandemic and last year’s failure to qualify due to the rating.

 

- The first opponent is from Kazakhstan, but the club is not very famous, without experience in such tournaments. Plus or minus for us?

- Yes, the opponent is a little unknown to us, but this is not so significant; we will build on our play and our strengths.

 

- Can a long flight affect the team?

- I think the team will have the right mindset for the game, given that this is not an ordinary championship match, but a Champions League match.

 

- Is the first away match an advantage for our team?

- We do not focus on where the first match will be held; the club’s management provided us with all the necessary conditions for us to achieve a positive result.

 

- What do you tell the players before the match, given that this is the longest trip in their careers?

- The motivation for the players should be the very participation in this top tournament, and we work out the tactical aspect in every game of the championship. Everything will depend only on our game, and not on the opponent.
