Wilinton Aponzá: «It's not easy coming to a new club, but I'm willing to learn»
Colombian striker, Wilinton Aponzá on the new season, preparation on the shores of the Mediterranean Sea and adaptation in the new club:
- Vili, we are glad to see you as part of FC Sheriff. How was the first month?
- Indeed, it was a month of great learning on and off the pitch. Arriving in a new country, getting to know each other and starting to adapt to a new culture, as well as getting to know the new team, which I am proud to represent.
- Can you say that you are already used to the new realities of your career, new club, new partners?
- We are professional footballers and personally I take it very seriously, and part of our profession is the ability to adapt quickly to the new environment around us and the ability to perform in whatever context we find ourselves in. In my short career I have been fortunate enough to play in several countries and share the locker room with players and coaches from all over the world. I think that helps me every time I find myself in a new environment. I already have a good relationship with my colleagues here at FC Sheriff and also with the coaching staff, who have been very friendly since I arrived.
- You have played both in Europe and South Korea. What are the differences in soccer?
- To be honest, soccer is played and interpreted differently in different countries. It would be unfair to say that one country plays soccer better or worse than another. What undoubtedly makes soccer the best sport in the world is passion and love ... It breeds us and is found in all parts of the world.
- Many footballers find the preparation stage difficult? How was your 18 days of training camp in Turkey?
- Coming to a new club is not easy, but it was a pleasant process, and it's always nice to learn from teammates and coaches, whom I get to know better and better. I enjoyed the pre-season training because it helped me to understand how we will work together as a team and also to see what the coaches want from us.
- Is the lack of scoring a lack of understanding with the new parters?
- I think in many cases we need to put any analysis in context, and if we're talking about pre-season, we know it's a period of finding out how well we fit together as a team. I dare say it's also a period for coaches. to figure out how they can take advantage of what's best in us. During this period we have focused on different aspects of our game and obviously goals are the goals needed to win any game, but I'm sure there will be many more as the season progresses.
- There are enough South Americans in the team, how does that help with acclimatization?
- It does help in the acclimatization, but I felt welcomed by the whole team, which has players from other countries as well. Soccer is global and it actually makes our experience even richer when we share with colleagues from different cultures and broaden our horizons humanly and professionally.
- Any expectations for the season that is about to start?
- I have very high expectations and I am very excited to start a new season at this renowned club. I will do my best and hope to bring a lot of joy to everyone with goals.
- Traditionally, if there are any thoughts or words you are ready to say to the fans of the club right now.
- I want to tell the club's fans that I came here to be part of the family and to give my best to help our team. I hope for your support and in return you will get my dedication.
