U-21 national team of Moldova ended the Commonwealth Cup with a victory
U-21 national team of Moldova had their final match at the Commonwealth Cup in St. Petersburg. The national team of Latvia was our team’s opponent with which Igor Ursaki’s team met in the group stage.
In the group the teams played in a 1:1 draw. In the match for ninth place at the tournament Moldova won Latvia. A great contribution in the victory of the national team of Moldova was made by FC Sheriff players.
In the starting eleven there were three of our players – Artiom Razgonyuk, Valery Makritsky and Dmitri Semirov. Semirov was substituted on 71st minute. Six minutes before the end of the game Vadim Pairelli took the field.
The regulation time again ended in a 1:1 draw. In the first half Dmitri Semirov could make a precise shot which lead the team forward. However, on 75th minute Latvia balanced the scoring with a penalty shot. At the end of the match there was a penalty shootout in which our national team was more successful – 6:5. Three goals were scored by FC Sheriff players: Makritsky, Razgonyuk and Pairelli who scored the final goal.
For the second match in succession Dmitri Semirov was called the best player in Moldova’s squad.
Despite the fact that U-21 national team of Moldova did not lose any match in St. Petersburg, it ended up as the ninth among twelve teams.
