“Tottenham” – “Sheriff” November 7, 2013
The match between FC “Tottenham” and FC “Sheriff” took place at “White Hart Lane” stadium in London on Matchday 4 of Europa League.
The game in Tiraspol showed that “Sheriff” can play equal with the famous English club. Yesterday our team also showed a good game and delivered a battle.
The supporters of “Spurs” filled the stadium completely. 36 000 spectators came to see the match and supported “Tottenham” till the last minute. On 7th minute Vjekoslav Tomic had to seriously go into the game for the first time in this match when our goalkeeper cleared the ball sent by Dembele. The hosts put pressure to “Sheriff” goal almost every minute, however our players were fighting and fending off the challenge. And on 25th minute “White Hart Lane” nearly tailed away. “Sheriff” converted a smashing counterattack as a result of which Ismail Isa turned out to be in Brad Friedel’s box. Isa aimed at the close corner but the back made a block and the ball hit the post. After a few minutes “Sheriff” had a wonderful chance again. Last 20 minutes of the first half were dominated by the hosts but coherent actions of our football players did not allow opening the score.
In the second half the Londoners continued attacking Tomic’s goal. In one of the episodes our goalkeeper cleared the ball from Eriksen in an unbelievable way. But on 60th minute our defense failed. Erik Lamela got the ball in the penalty area and made one touch shot to the close corner. In a few minutes Lamela took the penalty after the fight with Djibril Paye. The best striker of “Tottenham” Jermain Defoe gave away a free-kick and Tomic had no chance. Losing in scoring “Sheriff” did not give up and had a few dangerous attacks one of which resulted in a goal. Kadu made a shot from the distance, Brad Friedel turned the ball away and running Ismail Isa could outplay the goalkeeper and hit the goal of “Tottenham”. The goal conceded became the first one for the “Spurs” in this Europa League. Last minutes of the match were dominated by the champion of Moldova but brave “Sheriff” did not score any other goals.
“Sheriff” lost by the score 2:1 but again they leave pleasant impressions from their game. “Anji” scored on 94th minute to “Tromsø”. So the match with “Anji” in Ramenskoe will be determinative in the fight for the going out of the group.
