Roberto Bordin: We should be professionals in everything
FC Sheriff new head coach Roberto Bordin has been in the team for a few days. He told us how he sees his work in our club, what he expects from players and many other things.
- How is the adaptation going in the team?
Everything is wonderful. I found a very ambitious and organized club. We have great working conditions here. I think we are at one of the best sports camps in Europe. All that is left is to achieve a result.
- You played and worked with many famous specialists. Does it help you in your work?
Sacchi, Lippi and Mandolini are great personalities in football. They are professionals. It is the right way to learn from them and take all the best. My goal is to achieve the same coaching results. I work a lot on this. My work day starts at 6am.
- You worked as a head coach only in Triestina and previously you were a head coach assistant. Sheriff is a club with great ambitions. Aren't you afraid of this challenge?
No, I am not. At first I need to know the country, local football. I will ask for help from the club's president, general director and everyone who works with me. It is normal. I would like to say that i am very ambitious. All my thoughts are about the team and I’ll do my best to achieve a result. I want to bring maximum benefit for the club to win the championship and successfully perform on the international level.
- Did you have time to get to know someone during these two days in the team?
For now I met only those players I have now. Unfortunately, many of them left for national team games. When there is a new coach in the team, all players are equal. And each of them tries to prove their ability and show their mastery. It is a pity the team is not full now. I will have not much time to spend together at the training sessions before the first match. Despite this, we will do everything to win.
- What did you know about the championship of Moldova before coming here?
I know Artur Ionita very well, we worked in FC Verona. We had a great relationship. We talked a lot about the championship of Moldova, he told me a lot about FC Sheriff. He said it is a great club in Moldova.
- Italian football is conservative. Tactics and defense are on the first place. Do you follow these principles?
I am not the coach who thinks only about defense. Sheriff has very good attacks. Players' mentality is very important in football. We should play high in the air. I try to show my ideas the players to play attacking football.
- How important is discipline for you?
I told the team since the first minutes here: ''We must be happy to have a chance to play football. We must be professional in everything''. I don’t take negative attitude to my work. So the discipline is always on the first place.
- FC Sheriff is a club with many nationalities. Don't you think there will be small groups according to nationality types?
My experience as a player and as a coach shows that it's always like that. When I was a player, I had best friends who I spent my free time with, we met outside the pitch. But when we get all together – we are inseparable. We are one team and we have the same goal – to win every match.
- What do you like doing in your free time?
Football. That's it. When I have free time, I always think about the team. It happened that football is all my life, and my mind thinks about the team every minute.
- You are Italian and you enjoy your cuisine, don’t you?
Yes, I love pasta and pizza. My wife is from Crimea. And she cooks Russian food for me. It's very delicious.
- Are you satisfied with meals the team takes? There are differences with Italy, aren't there?
Our meals are even too good. Of course, there are differences between nutrition in Italian clubs and here, but it is very good. I am satisfied with everything.
- Finally we would like to hear what you can tell to Sheriff fans?
When I was a player, I did all my best in the game. I can assure everyone that the team and I will do this in every match. I look forward to the first official match. I want to live my team, their play and bring maximum benefit.
