Rasheed Akanbi: "Sheriff has a good and well-known reputation"
Nigerian forward Rasheed Akanbi has recently joined our team. Rasheed commented in an interview on his transfer, the first games in European competition and his attitude to football.
- Rasheed, now you are a football player of FC Sheriff...
- Yes, it means a lot to me, the Tiraspol club has a good and well-known reputation. A lot of people want to be in this club. This is a major step forward in my career. I got the opportunity to develop and at the same time raise the club to a higher level, thanks to my individual contribution.
- Did you consult with someone before signing the contract?
- I did not think about the offer for a long time, of course, I got acquainted with the information about the club. My teammate, Dimitrios Kolovos (we played together in Turkey) spoke positively about FC Sheriff. He said that this is a strong club and I should try to prove myself here. Upon arrival in Tiraspol, I was impressed by the infrastructure and the generally high level of attitude towards football.
- Stjepan Tomas also worked in Turkey, did you cross paths in some way?
- Yes, I know him. We played against Göztepe, which he coached. Now we will play under his leadership. The first training sessions were held in a close-knit and good atmosphere.
- What tasks do you set for yourself in the new team?
- I do not set personal goals, as the result depends on the whole team, coaching staff, fans and club management. In other words, my goal is the overall goal of the club. I am a small part of a large project, I will try to invest myself in something bigger.
- Next month we will already play in the first round of the Champions League - what can you say about our opponent?
- I have not heard anything about the Bosnian team before. But the first days at the club and the training showed a high level of preparation of our team. In my opinion, we need to seriously set to the first game and give everything one hundred percent.
- How are you doing with performance?
- I try to score in every game. Score a lot and often - this is normal for a striker. The more balls, the more confidence you gain. I am steadily striving for three things in football: discipline, determination and dedication.
- And how do you endure the goalless “drought”?
- Of course, all football players have such periods. My recipe is to stay positive. You need to stay calm and believe in yourself. I try to overcome fears and abstract from the negative.
