Luka Pavlovic: Our top priority is the development of young players
FC Sheriff-2 head coach Luka Pavlovic summarizes the results of the transitional Moldovan Championship in Division A, season 2017.
Luka, in the last game of the transitional season our team beat FC Grănicerul away with the score 2-1. What can you say about this encounter?
As I already said, Grănicerul is a challenging opponent. They have experienced players. If you look at the tournament table, you’ll see that Glodeni’s club has only two defeats in the season and they conceded the least of all the contenders. In the former game, we showed adult football. We brought home our deserved three points. But I repeat it’s not easy to play against this team away.
Sheriff-2 took the second place in the standings. Being on top is your key priority or perhaps you chase other goals?
Our priority is the development of young players. We must prepare our youth to conquest with the first team players. Sure, we are not satisfied with our table position. We always try to put our guys to the highest achievements in football. This season the schedule of the games was shortened and we had problems with converting. As a result, we are behind FC Victoria with only one point difference.
In your opinion, what did the team lack to win golden medals?
Our lost to Victoria in the first leg took its toll on us. As it came out, it’s the only team who was our main rival in the fight for the top place. All opponents try to do their utmost playing against us. It’s a big advantage, of course, and for us it’s a ladder to self-development. Well, I’ll say that this season our performance in converting dangerous moments was far from perfect even if we scored the most goals into our opponent’s net.
Can you tell the best and the worst game of the season?
According to the record, the worst game we had against FC Victoria despite the football was at a good level. The best game was against FC Zimbru-2. Even considering it ended in a draw (2-2), the pressure and the spectacular part was almost the same as in Division A.
Who of the players left you satisfied with their progress the most?
In general, all players have made progress, bigger or less. It depends on individual player’s qualities. Some players need to make appearances in the Division A to boost their self-confidence. And all the players have improved their results in physical and tactical aspects.
How do you rate the new Championship’s regulations? Has Division A become more intriguing?
I’d rather divide the Championship into three rounds. The thing we have two away encounters with the same opponent doesn’t seem alright to me. Anyway, the second part of the season was more interesting from the point of view of the football shown.
