Ibrahima Soumah: «From the first day he felt seriousness and responsibility»
Guinean midfielder Ibrahima Souma became a player of the first team of FC Sheriff. The player started his professional career at SOAR Academy in his home country, and in 2023 he moved to Moldova, becoming a player of Zimbru Chisinau. Last season he played 22 official matches, scoring a goal and an assist.
After signing the contract, Ibrahima shared his first impressions in an interview with the club's press service.
- Ibrahima, welcome to Tiraspol! What are your first impressions of the club Sheriff?
- Thank you! I have known about Sheriff for a long time, even before I moved to Moldova. I remember the team especially well thanks to Momo Iansana. When we talked about him, we always mentioned the club. My impressions are the most pleasant - excellent sports base, friendly staff, ambitious team. Everything is at a high level.
- How was the signing of the contract? Was there any excitement?
- Even last season the club showed interest, but we decided to wait until the end of the championship. I had thoughts to change the championship, but the management of Sheriff showed real interest. My family supported me and I decided to stay. This is an important step, because the Tiraspol club consistently participates in European cups. There was excitement, but more joy.
- Is the opportunity to make a debut in European cups a pressure or motivation?
- It is, rather, motivation. Every player has a dream to play in the European Cup, and I am no exception. For me it is a new stage, a big responsibility, but I am ready. I want to adapt as soon as possible and be useful to the team.
- You spent two years at Zimbru. How do you assess the level of the Moldovan championship?
- When you look from the outside - one thing, but when you play - quite another. In matches with the leaders of the championship you can feel real tension, struggle, high intensity. There are good teams and strong players in Moldova.
- What conclusions did you draw after the first season?
- It was a useful experience. I am satisfied with the time I spent in Zimbru, but I realize that there are things that need to be worked on. I am sure that at Sheriff I will have an opportunity to develop my strengths. Every coach brings something, makes you stronger.
- What would you like to improve in your game?
- First of all - concentration. Sometimes even a short disconnection can lead to serious consequences for the team. I want to get rid of these episodes.
- Do you have any soccer idols?
- I like the game of Thomas Partey, Naby Keita and Yaya Toure. In general, my favorite footballer is Lionel Messi. He is the best.
- What goals do you set for yourself in the new season?
- To adapt, to play as many matches as possible, to benefit the team. And, of course, to strive for victories and winning trophies.
- What does it mean for you to play for the most titled club in Moldova?
- It is a great honor and, of course, responsibility. From the first day in the club I felt the seriousness with which they work here. We talked with the coaching staff, and I understand what they expect from me. I will try to justify the trust.
- What would you like to say to Sheriff fans?
- We need your support. It gives strength, especially in important matches. We will try to win, and together with you we can achieve great results. We are waiting for you in the stands!
