Gerson Rodrigues: I want to leave a significant mark in the Yellow-Blacks’ history
Gerson Leal Rodrigues has recently signed a contract with FC Sheriff. The attacking player of the Luxembourg National team tells our press-office correspondent about his choice in favour of the most award-winning club of Moldova.
G.R.: It’s my choice and it’s what I want to do now. Sheriff is a good strong club. I want to help the team to give a high-leveled performance at the Euro Cups and National League. Making a new step of my career in Tiraspol is a good thing in my life.
Tell us about your football career before the employment agreement with the Yellow-Blacks.
Before this signing I have played for Telstar NV, Holland. My former team now is playing in the country’s Second Division. We did a good job this year and now the club has everything to enter the First Division. Now I’m focused on Sheriff and I’m happy to sign in.
What is your position on the pitch?
I always was playing in the attacking position, but can also help the team in the midfield. I like fast attacking style of play. I do my best to show a high-quality play in the offside.
Today Roberto Bordin has a big choice of attacking players. What do you think about competing?
Every club and every team have competition. For me, it’s good when there is competition as it’s a big motivation to work on yourself and become stronger. When there is competition you want to play, you need to prove this all the time. When there is no motivation, there are no conditions to development.
As we know, you were born in Portugal, but you are the citizen of Luxembourg. What National team do you play for?
Now I can play only for Luxembourg team. I have already played 9 games. I’m happy to have this opportunity to play for this country. In every game I try to do everything possible to get good results.
Can you tell anything about Moldovan football?
I played against the Moldovan National team. I also know that Sheriff fights for the gold in the Championship. I watched Europa league games, the team shows good football. I don’t know where I will be in a year , but while I’m here I will do my best to make the Wasps stronger.
Gerson, can the supporters of the Yellow-Blacks expect that in our championship yu will score no less goals than in Dutch Telstar?
It’s a difficult question. In Holland football is different, they score many goals. In Moldovan Championship the play is more physical. I think only the game can give a reply to this question.
Have you ever played under Italian coaches’ supervision?
No, I haven’t had such a chance. But I know a little about Roberto Bordin. I had an opportunity to talk with him. I think everything will be fine as I understand Italian. In Tiraspol lots of people speak Russian, I want to understand this language too that’s why I try to learn it in my free time.
What do you want to achieve in FC Sheriff most of all?
I want to leave a significant mark in the football history of FC Sheriff.
