The Greek newcomer of FC Sheriff first team, goalkeeper Georgios Athanasiadis, gave his first interview after signing the contract with the club:

 

- I am glad to be here, I officially became a part of the team and that is why I am in a good mood today. I have already met everyone, including the head coach and the goalkeeping coach. I am very impressed with the infrastructure of the club and how everything works here. My choice is obvious, because Sheriff is the most titled club in Moldova and a regular participant in the Champions League.

 

- Speaking of European competitions, as far as we know, you already have experience of playing in the Europa League ...

- Yes, last year I played for AEK in the group stage of this tournament, in particular in the game against Zorya Luhansk. I am glad to be in the team that will play in the Champions League, I hope to work hard to get a chance to debut in such a prestigious tournament.

 

- Why did you choose football?

- Football - overcoming difficulties and new challenges. I like to fight with myself and with rivals in this game. To summarize, this is the main reason for my personal choice.

 

- Speaking of difficulties, the team has three good goalkeepers. Doesn't it scare you?

- I already know that the club has good goalkeepers, which means there is competition for a place in the starting lineup. It only motivates me more. Plus, improving your skills is always beneficial to the player.

 

- How do you prepare yourself before each match?

- There are no special rituals, I try to be calm and focused. You need to focus on the upcoming confrontation and not lose concentration until the very end of the game.

 

- Is there a goalkeeper in world of football whose game you admire?

- For me, number one is Gianluigi Buffon. Cool technique, incredible reaxtion on the line. In the game, he is always the captain.

 

- What goals do you set for yourself?

- Goals should always be maximum. There is no point in playing football if you don’t want to win every match, win tournaments and first places. Therefore, only a victory in the Championship of Moldova and a worthy game in European competitions.
