Newcomer of FC Sheriff, Cameroonian defender Gaby Kiki spoke about his choice, his qualities and his mood for the upcoming season.

 

- Gabi, congratulations on signing the contract with FC Sheriff. Why did you choose our club?

- Thank you, I'm very glad that everything worked out and in the end I ended up here. My agent suggested that I continue my career in Tiraspol and I gladly agreed. I know Yuri Vernidub from the games in the Belarusian Championship. I know how he works, I know that he always strives to achieve serious results with his teams. Plus, Sheriff played a bright and strong game in the Champions League last season. These are two important factors that motivated me to join the team.

 

- Where does such knowledge in Russian come from?

- I played and lived in Belarus for 5 years, and learned there. I'm a fast learner and I don't really need any courses.

 

- How did you become a footballer?

- We are 9 children in the family, and only I became a sportsman. I guess I was born with this craving for what is now my favorite thing in life. At first I played in the street with my peers. Then many began to pay attention to how I do it. The information reached my father, who decided to enroll me in the football section. Since then, my football destiny has been determined.

 

- You have become the "Player of the Month" more than once, playing in Belarus. What is the secret of success?

- The secret is that I just love my job. I am ready to fight to the last for my team. On the field I am very serious and purposeful. All this is bearing fruit.

 

- Our defense line is built from players of different nationalities, how will you find a common language with partners?

- You don't have to worry about that. Everyone speaks a little English, I think everything will work out in this regard reliably and smoothly.

 

- How are the first trainings going?

- We are at the beginning of work, the loads are now a little more than usual. This is normal for a pre-season camp. It cannot be said that it is unbearable, because we are all professionals and we know what lies ahead for us.

 

- You already have European Cup experience - are you ready to show yourself at a higher level?

- Even if you wake me up at night, I'll tell you that I'm ready.

 

- What do you most want to achieve in FC Sheriff?

- I came to a team that has already achieved a good level in competitions. But I did not participate in the conquest of past achievements. Therefore, I want to show myself and repeat the past success of the team. I always strive to leave a good impression. I hope everything works out.

 

- The African Cup of Nations 2021 is currently underway and Cameroon is the host country of the tournament. Are you rooting for yours?

- Of course I root for them, only Cameroon. We have a strong team, I think they can reach the finals.
