FC Sheriff U-16 at the tournament in memory of legendary Vitali Daraselia
FC Sheriff U-16 took part in the international tournament dedicated to the legendary midfielder of FC Dinamo Tbilisi - Vitali Daraselia. The tournament took place in Tbilisi on May 27-31.
Eight teams in age category U-16 took part in the tournament: FC Dinamo Tbilisi, FC Dinamo Tbilisi-2, Lokomotiv Tbilisi - all from Georgia, A3 Alkmar from Holland, Besikhtash, Trabzonspor - from Turkey, Polish Legia and FC Sheriff Tiraspol.
In the first game with FC Dinamo Tbilisi our team conceded by the score 3:1. The only goal was scored Grigori Koshkodan.
The second game with A3 Alkmar ended in a 2:2 draw. Denis Macalic and Ivan Nedov scored to Holland team.
In the third game FC Sheriff played with Besikhtas from Turkey. None of the teams scored goals – 0:0.
The main time of the semifinal match with Legia ended by the score 1:1. In a penalty shootout Polish team had more luck and won by the score – 4:2.
In a final match our team also had to play with Besikhtas but the Turkish team did not take the field due to their players' injuries. The result is 3:0 victory.
Our team took 7th place in the tournament.
FC Sheriff U-16 coach Andrei Corneencov shared his opinion:
- I think the tournament is of a high class, and our team represented Sheriff Academy and our country very well. Even with the 7th position, in games with such teams as A3 Alkmar, Besikhtas, Legia there was not much that we conceded in. I am sure the tournament is very useful for the players and of course for me as a coach. I noticed advantages and shortcomings of my team, I analysed every game and we have things to work on in the future. Of course, it would be great to take part in such tournaments more often.
