FC Sheriff – SK Slovan
Second leg match in terms of the UEFA Champions League third qualifying round between FC Sheriff and SK Slovan gathered about nine thousand spectators at the Main Arena of Sports Complex Sheriff.
After playing by the score 2:1 in Bratislava it took FC Sheriff much strength to be first in the attack. Most active were Fred Benson and Ismail Isa but SK Slovan defenders were able to block the shots. On 18th minute the head referee of the match showed a yellow card to Elkin Blanco. The most dangerous moment of the match happened on 21st minute. Ricardinho made a long-range shot but the ball lacked a few centimeters to get into the goal. The visiting team responded in a dangerous shot by Marko Milinkovic from the penalty line but the ball flew higher. Five minutes before the end of the half Ricardinho was about to score again. Radu Ginsarigot Ricardinho at the shooting position, the Brazilian made a strong shot, however Dusan Pernis handled it. Right before the break Milinkovic made a firm shot but Degra performed a good save.
On 56th minute there happened a key moment of the match. Elkin Blanco compromised SK Slovan attack in the centre of the pitch. The referee made a decision on booking FC Sheriff midfielder, thus making it a red card. Being left outnumbered FC Sheriff kept on attacking supported by people at the stands. On 60th minute Ismail Isasent a curl from the penalty area but the ball got into the crossbar. SK Slovan responded in a shot by Soumah in the crossbar. Substituted Robert Vittek came one to one with Degra who performed greatly. The match was about to finish. FC Sheriff was awarded a penalty on 94th minute. Even Degra came to the opposite goal who then headed the pass from Kadu. However our goalkeeper’s shot was imprecise.
The match ended in a 0:0 draw which gives SK Slovan the right to continue playing in the UEFA Champions League. FC Sheriff enters the UEFA Europa League play-off round. The opponent will be known on August 8.
