FC Sheriff - HNK Rijeka
After minimal defeat in the first leg match with HNK Rijeka, FC Sheriff conceded in their home by the score 0:3.
FC Sheriff started to attack Ivan Vargic’s goal from the first minutes. On 6th minute Balima sent a shot to Ernandes who slipped down in the last moment. On 14th minute there happened perhaps a key moment of the match. In fight with the striker FC Sheriff defender Marcel Metoua got seriously injured and had to leave the pitch. As it became known after match, Marcel was diagnosed with fracture of the splint-bone. This substitution changed FC Sheriff plans for the game which situation was used by HNK Rijeka and they opened the scoring. On 29th minute Anas Sharbini sent a shot from the penalty area towards Lima Moises, but FC Sheriff central defender Ligger Moreira tried to kill the ball and turned it into his own goal. FC Sheriff responded in a dangerous shot by Benjamin Balima who was about to score a goal to Croatian goalkeeper. Being in a difficult situation the “yellow-blacks” became more active in the attack. In one of the episodes Ismail Isa assisted to Thiago Galvao who was in a few meters in front of the goal but Thiago missed. Right before the end of the half HNK Rijeka doubled the scoring thus making the result almost obvious. Moises made a shot and Andrei Kramaric scored.
In the second half Kadu sent a firm shot with his left foot but the goalkeeper made a save. Right after that the Croatians scored the third goal. Lima Moises got the ball in the penalty area and made a precise shot in the far corner. Our team tried to score to the opponent’s goal but Vargic was confident on his line, some shots were right in the post.
Unfortunately, the match ended in FC Sheriff defeat – 0:3. Our team leaves UEFA Europa League and now can concentrate on the Championship of Moldova.
