Dominik Kovačić: I am happy to play for the best club of Moldova
Croatian defender Dominik Kovačić, who has recently joined the Wasps' squad, shared with our correspondent his impressions on his transfer to the new football family.
Dominik, share your impressions of joining FC Sheriff, please.
I have good impressions after the first two days in Tiraspol; it's a pretty place. I’m very happy I have signed a contract for the best club of Moldova.
Why have you decided to become a part of the Yellow-Blacks’ team?
I had offers from other clubs but I decided to join the Yellow-Blacks’ squad because FC Sheriff team’s name has been well known for long in Europe.
Tell us how did you come into football?
I began playing football when I was six years old, but besides football I also had trainings in Athletics and Taekwondo. So when I turned seven, I took a firm decision to go on only for football.
Is defender the only position you happened to play on?
No, I started to play as a midfielder, but later I requalified into a defender. Now it’s my general position. On the pitch, best of all I work in defense.
Playing for Swiss Lugano, probably, you have learned some Italian. FC Sheriff head coach Roberto Bordin is an Italian. Was it one of the reasons you decided to choose the Tiraspol club?
Yes, I’ve learned some Italian as I spent in Swiss Lugano about six months. I know that the head coach is from Italy and I have already spoken with him in Italian. But it wasn’t a reason why I came to Sheriff. In football it’s always important to overcome all language barriers.
What tasks do you set now for yourself in FC Sheriff ?
I really want to become a holder of a double title together with Sheriff, win the Cup and the Moldovan Championship.
