Day 12. Krzysztof Krol interview
16:31, 21 February 2013
Day 12. Krzysztof Krol interview
Krzysztof, tell us some words about where you are from.
I was born in Poland, where I began to play football. When I turned 18, I moved to Spain, to Real Madrid. There I was for two years and then came back to Poland, played in the high division. After a year and a half I travelled to the USA, to MLS, where I played for Chicago Fire. After that I came back to Poland. In December I cancelled the contract with my club, and so I'm here.

Why did you decide to become a footballer?
I always played football in childhood. For me it was the best occupation where I had some spare time to spend.

Tell us about your family.
My grandmother was a spostswoman, she was running, and grandfather played football as well as my father. That's why when I decided to become professional footballer I got support from them.

How did you become left defender?
I was playing for the team of the small private school and we went to the Portugal, played for Benfica Lisbon and we lacked left defender. The coach asked me if I could play on that position. I said - no problem. It was a good game for me and since then I play left defender.

What is your favorite club in European or world football?
Real Madrid. It is the club where I've been, I always follow the games. My dream is to appear there again and to play there, but for now this is impossible. However, I always watch Real games and consider this team to be the best.

Why did you leave Real?
In Spain there I didn't have driver licence and it was hard to get from home to the stadium, I missed my family in Poland. Also then I played in the third division and I had a conversation with Leo Beenhakker, who then was the head coach of Poland national team. He told me that if I play in higher division, he will give me a chance in Poland national team. The Jagelonia, Polish team, head coach invited me to this team. That's why I didn't think too long, moved there, and then went to the national team. I played in Poland and got the proposal from Palermo, but my team didn't want to release me. Many people ask me why I left Real and came back to Poland, but I could be in Palermo, but was not released. You never know what will happen.

What in your opinion is the best player on your position?
Patrice Evra from Manchester United.

Do you think French footballers to be the best on the positions of left or right backs?
Yes, I think so, but this is my own opinion, probably other people think differently.

What are your first impressions about Sheriff?
This is a team of a good level. I already heard about Sheriff before, because this team played with Olympique Marseille. If we speak about the impressions from the moment of our appearance here, I can say that Sheriff is a good team. I hope to help my new team in the Champions League.

Did you manage to make friends with someone here or make a close acquaintance?
In the beginning, when I came here, I talked just to Luvannor, because he speaks Spanish good. We communicated every day, because I don't know Russian, and he helped me around.

Do you speak good Spanish?
Yes, I spent two years in Spain, I speak Spanish well, just like English  - the same level.

What would you like to achieve in Sheriff?
What would I say? First of all I have to work hard because all January I didn't have practice with the ball and was only running. I have to work to be ready to play in the first eleven, to help the team win every game and to play in the UEFA Champions League.
