Andrei Corneencov: «This victory is crucial, first and foremost, for us»
Andrei Corneencov, assistant head coach of FC Sheriff, on the ninth-round match against FC Zimbru:
- As of today, we’ve accomplished the goal we set for ourselves. Thank God, we won. We took three points. This victory is crucial, first and foremost, for us. There’s one thing that’s probably a bit unpleasant, but I have to mention it. Unfortunately, the referees, let’s just say, are a little—how can I put this more gently… If they disallow clear goals when the ball crosses the goal line by a meter, then I don’t know what kind of goals we’re supposed to score. Honestly, excuse me, but that’s the truth. And this happens quite often.
- Can we say that the focus is now on the Cup, considering that you played already knowing the result of the FC Petrokub match?
- I said before this, after the match against Petrokub—we prepare for a specific match. We don’t look too far ahead. There’s the next match, and we’re preparing for it purposefully and approaching it that way. The next game is against Petrokub, and we’ll prepare for that.
- It’s the last match of the Championship; do you have a message for the fans? Especially since they came to the game today, in this kind of weather.
- We still have a home cup match. In any case, a huge thank you to the fans. It’s nice to play at home in front of our fans. We haven’t played here in a long time; the last few matches were away games, and there hasn’t been soccer in Tiraspol for a while. Thank God the fans weren’t deterred by the rain. A huge thank you to them for that.
