Uladzimir, what is the fitness of the “Sheriff” goalkeepers now? As far as we can remember, Stoyanov had a minor injury. How does he feel?
- Stoyanov feels good, his injury does not bother him any more. Three keepers of the first team are in good fitness and ready to play.
Doesn’t it seem to you there is no competition to Stoyanov in the team? He keeps the goal most of the time while Zveaghintev is on the bench.
- I think Zveaghintev creates the competition for Stoyanov. Remember, he played both in the last and current seasons. You know, when the team sets big goals the question is to select the goalkeeper who plays better, who doesn’t have “global” problems in a game. It would be some kind of experiment if you change a goalkeeper who plays really well. And nobody knows how such experiment may affect on a final result. If a goalkeeper and defenders play stably, you can’t break this united mechanism.
Why doesn’t Dmitri Stajila play for the first team? Two years ago, after successful matches in the UEFA Europa League Dmitri was sidelined and now he plays for the second team.
- Taking into consideration the normal and healthy competition in the team, I can say Dmitri doesn’t meet it. Playing for the second team, he has both good and bad matches. He is short of stability to create competition to Stoyanov and Zveaghintev. In my opinion, competition in the team has to stimulate every goalkeeper and intensify their work on trainings.
There was an incident not so long ago when the field player kept the goal. Zveaghintev got the red card in that match. How can you comment that episode?
- I think it was an accident. Zveaghintev left the penalty area to secure defenders, probably the ball hit his hand, and it was difficult to determine that. In my opinion, it was the disputable issue but the referee decided to send him off the pitch. The goalkeeper just tried to save the goal and his team and didn’t play by his hand deliberately. Such playing moments sometimes happen.
What qualities must a good goalkeeper have to save his goal?
- A good goalkeeper of European level must be able to take the only correct decision at short notice. Every goalkeeper has to develop, upgrade his skills, and strive for something. As to playing aspect, a goalkeeper has to be strong in duels with opponents, uncomplying in a fight for the ball, confidently play in the penalty area. Thus, the goalkeeper proves he is not a coward and is not afraid of anything. The most important thing is psychology. I think all abovementioned qualities are built on psychology.
